Pakar Sebut Pentingnya Sanitasi untuk Cegah COVID-19

Kebersihan diklaim sebagai salah satu kunci mencegah penularan virus corona. Ketua Kolegium Pengurus Pusat Himpunan Ahli Kesehatan Lingkungan (HAKLI), Profesor Arif Sumantri, mengatakan sanitasi yang baik juga dapat ikut mencegah pertumbuhan mikroorganisme seperti virus penyebab COVID-19 itu.

“Kita harus gunakan air bersih, sehat, dan aman, tidak ada pencemaran sampah. Limbah ini sumber yang mengundang mikroorganisme, bisa karena perilaku kita, perlu tindakan dalam mengantisipasinya,” kata Arif.

Dia juga mengingatkan disinfeksi yang banyak dilakukan masyarakat sudah baik. Tetapi, itu bukan segala-galanya dalam upaya mencegah penularan COVID-19. Menurut Arif, perlu juga upaya jangka panjang selain melakukan penyemprotan disinfektan, seperti dengan membuat lingkungan sekitar memiliki sanitasi yang baik.

“Persoalan corona yang menyebabkan kematian dan demam berdarah persoalannya ada di air. Perlu juga gunakan jamban yang sehat karena ini jadi lahirnya mikroorganisme. Banyak jarak jamban dengan sumber air bersih tidak sesuai,” katanya.

Saat ini, terjadi tren masyarakat memasak sendiri di rumah. Hal ini baik untuk kesehatan karena mereka dapat mengendalikan higienitas makanan secara mandiri. Tidak kalah penting, Arif mengajak masyarakat menerapkan pola hidup bersih dan sehat (PHBS) dengan rajin mencuci tangan sebelum menyentuh bagian muka atau sebelum makan sehingga masyarakat terbiasa dengan PHBS dan terhindar dari berbagai penyakit menular yang bisa masuk melalui perantara tangan.
